Faculty: Javiela Evangelista
Javiela Evangelista earned her M.A. in African American studies from Columbia University. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in anthropology at the CUNY Graduate Center. Her dissertation is titled Racialization and Anti-Haitianism in the Dominican Diaspora: Reshaping the Parameters of Social Justice.
Evangelista is currently teaching Caribbean societies and Caribbean literature. She has also taught race and ethnicity, African American History, women in Latin America, African descendants in the Americas (LEH) and freshman seminar at Lehman College. She is an Andrew Mellon Mays fellow and has been the recipient of the Dean K. Harrison, MAGNET and Hispanic-Latino Organization for Leadership and Advancement Awards.
