About the Department of Music
The Lehman Music Department is committed to providing the highest quality musical education in an environment that provides an inclusive and engaging learning experience for all students, serving the Bronx and surrounding areas with its diverse and active free admission performance schedule, involving students, alumni, college faculty and personnel, and many members of the community.
Lehman Music strives to be the premier music program in the Bronx and surrounding region by attracting a diverse and talented student population by the quality of its faculty, performing ensembles, academic offerings, and its integration with the many cultural offerings of New York City. Fundamentally, we believe that the study and performance of music in a serious and consistent manner encourages self-expression and confidence and will result in life-long engagement with the arts.
We offer comprehensive undergraduate and graduate degree programs with a variety of opportunities for individual creative development. The 64-credit Bachelor of Science in Music offers a general program of study with emphasis on theory, musicianship, history, and performance within a liberal arts college curriculum. A 12-credit minor and and 18-credit enhanced minor in music are also offered (more information).
The 39 to 42-credit Master of Arts in Applied Music and Music Teaching is a professional degree, providing students with the Master's component for New York State Professional Certification, and guides them through the remaining requirements for certification eligibility (more information).
