The knowledge and skills needed for those aspiring to become full-charge bookkeepers are taught in this program. Opportunities for employment in this field are available in a variety of organizations and businesses.

Bookkeeping I

This entry-level course  covers  the  concepts and principles of accounting and data accumulation techniques with an emphasis on preparation and interpretation of financial statements.  In addition, youl learn to understand how the basic accounting process, sales, purchases, and other transactions are recorded and classified into individual accounts. Areas of concentration include the accounting cycle in service and merchandising business for a sole proprietorship.

Bookkeeping II

Companies today ask for financial information that enables them to make informed decisions in a rap- idly changing business environment. This course gives students the tools to understand how the ac- counting process puts all of a company’s financial data into standardized formats that can be used for decision making, analysis and planning. Areas of concentration include current and long-term assets, current and long-term liabilities and statements of cash flow. An introduction to accounting for partner- ships and corporations is included.

Introduction to Individual& Business Taxation 

This course introduces you to federal income tax as it relates to individuals and businesses.  Areas of concentration include income inclusion and exclusion and deductions as they are defined utilizing the Internal Revenue Code and related material. Special classes of taxpayers including partnerships, estates, and trusts are considered as well as accounting and procedural rules. New York State and City taxes are covered

QuickBooks

This hands-on course teaches students how to perform basic accounting procedures using this popular software. Computer systems enable organizations to systematically identify, acquire, store, analyze, distribute, and reuse information and knowledge to enhance organizational productivity and competitiveness. This course also describes the role of QuickBooks Accounting and Microsoft Excel in the development and management of record keeping initiatives. Prerequisites: Recent completion of CFM38, current experience or pre- test. A USB flash drive must be brought to first class.

Annual Federal Tax Refesher(AFTR) Course*

This 6-hour course with comprehension test addresses the 2018 general fi ling season concepts,tax updates and typical trouble areas identified bythe IRS. Successful completion of the course andtest counts toward the voluntary yearly requirement for obtaining an IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) Record of Completion for the 2018 filing season . The AFTR will satisfy the 6 AFTR CPE requirement for non-credentialed/non-exempt or unenrolled tax preparers. *Pending IRS approval
