Online Teaching and Learning

Lehman College uses Blackboard as its content management system for courses. Most classes will have some component of coursework (syllabus, documents), collaboration, teaching, and learning available online. Some courses will be designated as blended or hybrid, where class hours are both in a classroom on campus (face-to-face time/f2f) and other hours of coursework, assignments, collaboration, teaching and learning are completed online. Some classes are asynchronous, with all the coursework and student/faculty interaction completed online.

To learn more about online education, BlackBoard, student email accounts, CUNY Portal or to request assistance, visit: Online Education for Students.

Call your program coordinator or department office (ECCE, MHSE, CLLSE) to learn if your course(s) are blended/hybrid or asynchronous.

  • What is effective with respect to discussion board facilitation and conversation?
  • How do I use Web 2.0 tools and develop social networking activities? (and what exactly are Web 2.0 tools?)
  • How do I help students organize and participate in group work?
  • How do I read and respond to all this online discussion board material?

Online Teaching & Learning Leadership Team

In November 2008, an Online Teaching and Learning Leadership Team was established in the School of Education. In collaboration and consultation with each other, evaluation of our own practices, contributions from colleagues and adaptation of great work from colleges and faculty that blazed the path before us, we created a checklist as a beginning guide for creating blended learning (hybrid) or asynchronous courses. The team included: Leslie Lieman, School of Education, Chair; Margo DelliCarpini, MHSE; and Laura Roberts, CLLSE.
