Environmental Health and Safety

Federal, New York State, and New York City regulatory agencies have standards for specific potentially hazardous activities and processes that apply to colleges and universities. In addition to this regulatory framework, Lehman College and CUNY have developed policies and procedures for dealing with potential occupational and environmental hazards beyond compliance with regulatory agencies’ mandates.

The Environmental Health and Safety Office strives to ensure a safe working environment at Lehman and to minimize its environmental impact. To this end, the Office provides training, evaluation of workplace hazards, chemical hazard information and evaluation, indoor air quality evaluations, fume hood certifications, emergency response, and other services with the goal of minimizing the incidence of workplace accidents and injuries. The Office is also responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, directly managing or having oversight over the College’s multiple hazardous- and regulated waste streams.

The Environmental Health and Safety Office serves the entire Lehman College community. Our customers are Lehman’s faculty, staff, students, and the campus itself. Requests concerning regulatory compliance, workplace hazards, and environmental issues are always welcome and encouraged. Please visit, call, or e-mail at the address listed below.
