A Message from Lehman College President Ricardo R. Fernández
Dear Members of the Lehman Community:
I hope that you and your families safely endured the effects of Hurricane Sandy. The region will feel Sandy's aftermath for some time and our thoughts are with those who have been impacted by this unprecedented storm.
I am pleased that our campus came through the storm in good condition. Sadly, we lost some trees due to the high winds. However, campus facilities were not damaged and we did not lose power. As such, we welcome you back on campus as we resume normal operations and as the region continues its recovery.
As you may know, Lehman is currently the only CUNY Bronx campus that is supporting the City's storm response plan by serving as an evacuation center. We continue to host those in need from City health care facilities that required evacuation. While the 2nd floor of the APEX is open for classes, the lower sections of the APEX are closed due to the evacuation center.
In terms of support for our community in the aftermath of Sandy, students with any concerns are encouraged to contact our Counseling Center at 718-960-8761. Employee support resources are available at www.cuny.edu/worklife. In addition, CUNY has published an excellent guide to Hurricane Sandy resources and services, including ways that you can help with recovery efforts.
Anyone affected by Sandy - homeowners, renters and businesses - can apply for federal disaster assistance at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at 1-800-621-3362.
Our Public Safety and Building and Grounds staff continue their terrific work to support the evacuation center and ensure the maintenance of our campus facilities.
Our City's resilience in the face of adversity is remarkable. That is also true of our Lehman community. We look forward to your return to campus.
With best wishes,
Ricardo R. Fernández
