Changes to Parking for Sept. 27
September 19, 2012
We have received confirmation from the Contractor and CUNY that the building modules will be delivered and set onto the building's foundation Tuesday, September 25 through Thursday, September 27, 2012. The building is of modular construction and was built in a factory in Ephrata Pennsylvania. The building consists of 22 modules. The first module delivery will happen overnight Monday, September 24 into early Tuesday morning. With subsequent module deliveries on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. A very large crane will be located on the campus side of Goulden Ave. adjacent to Shuster Hall. The crane will lift each module from the parking lot and set it in place on the foundation.
To facilitate this work and safe guard persons and property from damage, we will be closing the south lot from the main entrance gate south to the end of the parking lot (Reservoir Ave) on Tuesday, September 25 and Wednesday, September 26, days when there are no classes scheduled. Parking for staff, faculty and students on campus those two days will not be an issue. On Thursday, September 27, the College is open. To accommodate the increased parking needs, we have put in place a few measures to ensure adequate parking on Thursday.
The General Contractor has retained the services of a company providing valet parking services. Once every parking space is filled in the remaining south lot, the valets will begin parking vehicles and will be responsible to move cars as required to provide access for faculty or staff leaving for lunch or for the day.
In addition, at 9 am on Thursday, September 27, the most southern section of the south lot will be open for parking for faculty and staff. The entrance gate will be opened at the guard booth and an Officer will be posted to check for valid parking stickers. Valet services will be available to increase parking capacity once all the parking spaces are filled. And, as an added measure to ensure adequate parking is available, Public Safety has arranged with the local NYPD precinct to make on street parking on the College side of Goulden Ave and on both sides of Bedford Park Boulevard West from Goulden to Paul Ave. available for parking at no charge to Lehman College Faculty and Staff with a current valid parking sticker displayed. Anyone parking without displaying a valid parking sticker will be ticketed and may be towed by NYPD.
We are confident that these measures will help to minimize inconvenience and replace the parking spaces that will not be available.
In addition to the loss of a section of the south parking lot, there will also be intermittent closings of Goulden Ave to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic when a module is being lifted from the parking lot over the street.
We apologize for any inconvenience to you and thank you for your patience, cooperation and assistance. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Again, thank you,
