Lehman College To Air Presidential Inauguration Jan. 20th
The Lehman community is invited to view the Presidential Inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, January 20, beginning at 10 a.m., in any of the following campus locations: Room 330 of the Music Building, the Music Building Cafeteria, Room B-39 of Carman Hall, the Carman Hall cafeteria, the Student Life Building, and the main gym in the APEX.
The program will begin with a musical presentation by the United States Marine Band and the San Francisco Boys and Girls Choruses. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) will deliver the Call to Order and Welcoming Remarks, followed by the Invocation by Dr. Rick Warren of the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., and a performance by Aretha Franklin.
At 11:30 a.m., U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens will administer the oath of office to Vice President-elect Joseph R. Biden, Jr. A musical performance will follow with Itzhak Perlman (violin), Yo-Yo Ma (cello), Gabriela Montero (piano), and Anthony McGill (clarinet), performing a work by composer John Williams.
At noon, President-elect Barack H. Obama will be sworn in by the Chief Justice of the United States, the Honorable John G. Roberts, Jr. President Obama will then deliver the inaugural address. Following his address, Elizabeth Alexander will recite a poem, and the Reverend Dr. Joseph E. Lowery will deliver the benediction. Closing the ceremony will be the United States Navy Band "Sea Chanters," performing the National Anthem.
