10/10/08 - 10/11/08 CIS Mid-Atlantic Regional conference Enabling/Disabling Ireland: Law, Literature, Politics, and Historical Change.

Queens College, CUNY, hosts Irish Theatre Festival

10/16/08 - 10/19/08 - "Playboy of the Western World" will open at 7 PM on October 16, followed by a live interview with Irish actor Stephen Rea, at the Goldstein Theater at Queens College. The production is the culmination of months of work on the play which included four weeks in Ireland this summer at NUI Galway where Queens Irish Studies and drama students studied Irish history, literature, and drama with Clare Carroll, Nessa Cronin, and director Susan Einhorn. Stephen Rea will be artist-in-residence at Queens College from October 6-16, during which time he will coach the students and appear in courses in Irish Studies, English, History ,and Drama. There will also be a Sunday afternoon symposium on October 19, that will include the artistic director of the Irish Rep in New York Charlotte Moore, and young Irish Studies scholar Nessa Cronin.
