Program Overview

The Adult Learning Center (ALC) at Lehman College is a program of Lehman's Institute For Literacy Studies (ILS) ,an organized research unit of the City University of New York, established in 1984 to advance research, theory development, and practice in the field of literacy education.

The ALC was established in 1985 as a combined literacy and language program for adults. It offers day and evening classes in Adult Basic Education (ABE), English to Speakers of Other Languages  (ESOL), and General Educational Development  (GED). It also offers elective classes like ESL Conversation,  Math, Office Skills, and Internet.

The program operates three cycles year round, September through December,  January through Mid-April, and Mid-April-June.
