MASTERITES speak out regarding the Internet

This class is somewhat difficult but builds independence. You are given general addresses and have to search for specific work.
Hadiya Hall

This class allows me to get experience working with the Internet and is also very informative in how the computer works.
Marilyn Gonzalez

This class is a great experience for everyone because our future is based on computers and its great to be using the Internet for free.
Alicia Tural

I like this class because it gives me more experience on using the Internet, besides one's future is made up of computers.
Joseph Linu

This Internet class is very amusing. It lets us enjoy the privilege of exploring further into the world of Cyberspace. The teacher is more then helpful at assisting us with work and how to use the computer proficiently.
Nestor Centeno

New Faces

MASTER is exceptionally happy to bring back two familiar faces to our program. Their sweet smiles and caring nature have made both Ms. Ahern and her assistant Ms. Dinneen a welcome part of the program. Although we missed their presence last summer, we are all thrilled that they have returned to the NASA program. MASTER is happy to reintroduce:

Ms. Jean Ahern is a full-time chemistry teacher at Mt. Vernon High School. She is a veteran of the MASTER Program having worked with MACY students many times. In her spare time, Ms. Ahern loves to travel and be involved in sports. The reason for her continued participation in MACY is her love for teaching and working with highly motivated students. We welcome her back and wish her well on her upcoming wedding in August.

Ms. Nora Dinneen who assists Ms. Ahern in the laboratory, is a full-time chemistry teacher at Eastchester High School. Ms. Dinneen, who worked with MASTER in the Spring, returned for the summer because of the rewarding feeling she gets when working with students who exhibit an aptitude and interest in science. On weekends, Ms. Dinneen plays soccer and Gaelic football. We are glad that she continues to return and work with our MASTERITES.

Water, Water Everywhere...

River pictureWater, water everywhere - but is there a drop safe enough to drink? On Tuesday, July 2, 1997, Groups C and D went to Tibbetts Brook Park to collect water samples from various parts of the lake and stream. MASTERITES dressed in waders and hip boots proceeded to act as young environmentalists trying to ascertain whether our local water is fit for consumption.

When the samples were returned to the lab, tests were conducted for traces of E-coli and levels of oxygen. We asked our MASTERITES to comment on this activity. "It was terrific and a great experience-" Nahn Dang. "It was really cool and worth going back." Chowdhury Kabir.

We anxiously await our MASTERITES conclusion as to whether the "Water, water everywhere - is fit to drink."
