NASA/MASTER 3rd Year

NASA symbolSchool is out and the NASA Program at Lehman College now begins its 3rd successful year. This summer our Masterites will become pilots, learn the skill of orienteering, build and program a robot capable of traversing a specially designed course, use the Internet for scientific research on topics related to NASA and investigate, through a series of experiments and field trips, the destructiveness of our living styles on our environment.

Dr. Anne Rothstein, the Program Director, stated that this is the 3rd year of a three year grant and she will apply for a renewal. Visitors from NASA will be on the Lehman College campus on July 20th and 21st. They will have an opportunity to see our fledgling scientists in action.

A new addition to the Program is the presence of Professor Palma Longo, a Lehman College faculty member. Professor Longo is the program's lead science educator. "We designed this program with the goal of students becoming confident that they can negotiate the increasingly scientific and technological world" stated Palma Longo.

Both Ms. McCabe and Ms. Grossberg are proud of the students who have accepted the opportunity to spend a portion of their summer vacation in academic pursuit. We are confident that our students can attain the goal articulated by Palma Longo.

Academic Olympics Warmup

The seventh annual Academic Olympics will kick off on Thursday, July 9 in Room B-04. MASTERITES will spend this week preparing for their first competition in the following ways:

  1. Selection of a team name

  3. Perusal of the New York Times for current events information
  4. Review of all course work

It is important that all Masterites come in the correct attire, "Purple T-Shirts", ready to do academic combat. It is hoped that each group takes time each day to prepare for this exciting competition.

The NASA Inside

Did you know that:

A Family Addition!

picture of KoreyHave you noticed that Mrs. Grossberg has been singing nursery rhymes? Well, she has become a grandmother. Korey Mills is 15 months old. She lives with her parents Tracey and Richie in Pennsylvania. Word has it that she is planning to be a Masterite in the year of 2010 and loves the purple T-shirt.

Mrs. Grossberg is also smiling because as of August 1st, she is going on sabbatical for study, for one year.

We wish her a healthy and happy year. Don't forget to visit.
