Student Group Leaders: Sierra Moona, Adam Campos, Heimdall Imbert, Haydee Rivas, Judena Foster, Karen Mittler

We welcome 96 students to the Lehman College MASTER Program.

Most of last summer’s faculty has returned. The reigning champ of the Academic Olympics, Mr. Chessler, is very confident that he will win again. He has even requested a certain type of backpack. Oh, the arrogance!

Mr. Chessler has designed a new course, Computer Science 101, for this summer. He states that this course is on the college level and is extremely challenging.

Ms. Colón has taken Forensic Science to a new level. Students will earn their "Crime Scene Investigator" T-Shirts.

Mr. Ginter’s class is busy learning how to design and program robots. Will the robots replace humans?

Welcome back to Nancy Roman after a hiatus of one year. Her students are dissecting pigs and learning about kidney dialysis.

This summer will certainly expose MASTERITES to a variety of learning experiences. This will be a great summer!

  Academic Olympics Warmup

The thirteenth annual Academic Olympics will kick off on Friday, July 9th, in Room B-04. MASTERITES have spent this week preparing for their first competition in the following ways:

  1. Selecting a team name;
  2. Selecting teams of three to compete;
  3. Perusing the New York Times for current events information;
  4. 4. Reviewing all course work.

It is important that all MASTERITES come in the correct attire, "Grey T-Shirts," ready to do academic combat. It is hoped that each group takes time each day to prepare for this exciting competition.

Ms. McCabe wishes everybody Good Luck!

There are NO LOSERS IN MASTER!

Our teams this year are as follows:

Group A

Terror Squad Ms. Roman
Heimdall Imbert

Group B

Blazers Mr. Chessler
Haydee Rivas

Group C

Artificial Intelligence Mr. Ginter
Adam Campos

Group D

Dangerous Minds Ms. Colón
Sierra Moona

Important Reminders

Luis Rohena

A warm welcome to all MASTERITES. Some of you might remember me, Luis Rohena, from the seven years I’ve been involved with the MASTER program. I have seen many of you grow as the program has seen me grow. The MASTER program helped me solidify my decision to be a science major at Columbia University. I’m looking forward to completing my MD in my native Puerto Rico and my PhD at Harvard with a specialization in oncology with the help of a full scholarship from the U.S. Army, where I hold the rank of Lieutenant. With my preparation at Clinton and the MASTER program I was able to tackle the difficult curriculum at Columbia and gain acceptance into every medical school I applied to. All of this shows you that I come from the same place that all of you are from and with hard work and determination you can achieve anything. I would like to thank everyone involved in making the MASTER program possible, especially Mrs. McCabe. Now, go study and read the New York Times for the next Academic Olympics.

Did You Know?

1. Mr. Ginter’s daughter was married this past weekend.

2. Mr. Chessler leaves for Bermuda at the end of each MASTER Program.

3. Ms. Miriam Rivas is no longer with the MASTER Program because she is busy starting a new high school.

4. Heimdall Imbert, student leader of Group A, arrived two days late because he was attending a Sienna College orientation program. He has his first assignment, which is to read "Cat’s Craddle" by Kurt Vonnegut. On September 13, he will take his first college test. Good Luck!

Judena Foster

Judena Foster

Hey guys, it’s nice to be in the "spotlight" for a little while. Well, as you can see here on this page, my name is Judena Foster. My nickname is Wolvie (because I loved the character Wolverine from the X-men comic series). My birthday was Tuesday (July 6) and now I’m legal. (Finally!) I’m Puerto Rican, Cuban and Jamaican, but I don’t speak any Spanish. In the upcoming fall, I will be attending Bard College in upstate New York. I plan to major in Music Performance and minor in Computer Programming. I also plan to become a singer and provide for my family while doing something I love!
