"Group Think" during Rebus Competition |
Students were surprised when Ms. McCabe announced that prior to the Academic Olympics a Rebus Competition would take place. Many students looked puzzled. What is a Rebus?
An explanation was given, rules explained, and the start signal sounded. Group D scored the highest with 21 points and this earned every student in "D" a trip to the Prize Box.
However Group D’s euphoria didn’t last long. The lead went back and forth with Group C until there were no more questions and Group C captured the lead.
Everyone should remember that Mr. Chessler doesn’t like to lose, and Ms. Roman and Kyvaughn Henry are working their group very hard.
Please note that Group D does win the prize for creative names. Never before in MASTER history has a group changed its name every week.

"Owwwwwww." My name is Kyvaughn Henry, as you might already know. I’ve been a MASTERITE since freshman year, so it was only right that I became a group leader this year. I just graduated from DWC (yes, I was in the class of 2005...the best of the best) and will be attending the University of Rochester, where I plan to do my pre-med thing and perfect my sign language skills. Why pre-med and sign language? Pre-med, so that I can become a cosmetic surgeon, and sign language came along when my five-year-old sister showed me up with her skills. (Don’t ask, it’s embarrassing.)
As of right now, I have no life; I’m working two jobs when I should be living life.
When this is all over, life will be back to normal, meaning that I will be back to playing tennis, partying with the crew, jonesin’ on the phone all night, and savoring my last bit of freedom until the real show begins. Well, what else should I say? If you wish to contact me, you can do so on sconex and/or The Face Book. This is me!

My name is Jacqueline Rodriguez and I’m group leader for Group C, The Fantastic C’s. I’m 17 (yes, hard to believe, right?), and I’ll be attending Haverford College in the fall. I’m sure most of you have never heard of Haverford before. Haverford is in Pennsylvania. It’s a nice place, look it up. I’m hoping to major in Economics when I get there. I’m really excited to finally get to college. I’m also nervous because I have to leave my friends and family, but that’s the part that also makes it exciting.
When I’m not at the MASTER Program I like reading and listening to music. Currently I’m reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. My favorite CD right now is Coldplay’s X and Y. I like all kinds of music. I listen to everything.

Adam Campos returned to visit from Connecticut College located in New London, CT. He is spending the summer doing research with the Biology Department on ice-nucleating bacteria. This bacteria makes anything freeze faster. Adam informed us that this bacteria can be either harmful or helpful. For example, the bacteria is harmful because if an insect ingests something containing this bacteria, it will be more likely to die in the winter. The bacteria is helpful because it can speed up the freezing process and if foods can be frozen faster, less energy will be consumed.
Adam loves spending the summer on a college campus because even though the campus is quieter, it is more interesting. For example, the Cerebral Palsy World Games and the GRC conference in which world class scientists meet on different issues took place this summer.
Adam will find time to take two weeks off this summer. He hopes to sleep and spend time with family.
Adam will someday be an environmental scientist and the world will benefit from this.

Why were Fernando Gomez and Katherine Mateo telling everyone to watch Bronx Talk on TV at 10:00 pm on July 20th, Wednesday night?
Fernando, Katherine, and Ms. McCabe were interviewed for about one half-hour on Wednesday morning by host Gary Axelbank. Fernando and Katherine were surprised to learn that Gary is a DWC graduate.
Gary, with his wit and friendly style, made everyone feel comfortable. And before we knew it, the interview was over.
For Ms. McCabe, this was her second appearance on Bronx Talk, and she thought that Katherine and Fernando were "poised, and articulate, and great looking."
