What a difference a week makes. Group C lived up to its name, "The Fantastic C’s," by doubling its score from the previous week and thus maintaining ownership of 1st place. The biggest surprise was Group D’s steady fall from 1st place to 3rd place in three weeks. Group B played an aggressive game and lost points because of incomplete answers. Group A was "Buzzer Shy," as they appeared afraid to give an answer should they lose more points.

Now it is our final week. By the time this is distributed, the champions will have been determined. They will probably be reading this newsletter while they wait on line to get their prizes- book bags. The Academic Olympics was fun and the students know how hard it is to answer questions under pressure with everyone watching. Ms. McCabe is proud of everyone and wishes everyone a good summer. See you next year for a brand new competition.

Yesenia Ibarra

Hola! My name is Yesenia Ibarra, and as you can see, I love to take pictures. I love my digital camera and anywhere I go it goes with me. I finally graduated from DeWitt Clinton in June. In the fall I will be a freshman at Haverford College. OMG! That’s scary! Here come the all-nighters writing ten-page papers and studying for finals. Ahhh! But that’s only a month away. In one month I will be at Haverford College meeting people from all places. That sounds nice. If you haven’t heard of Haverford, don’t fret, it’s in PA.

When I’m not at the office running around, I’m reading the Da Vinci Code. (I know, kind of late.) Valete! (Latin for farewell.)

Shantae Barrett

Greetings everyone! My name is Shantae Barrett, and I am a recent graduate from DeWitt Clinton. (Go Governors!) I am all about school spirit. I was a member of the marching band for the four years and I loved it. When I am not practicing the flute or the tenor saxophone, I enjoy reading and solving crossword puzzles. I read anything and everything, from J. K Rowlings to Jonathan Swift. I am a voracious reader and there is nothing I like better than diving into a dictionary or an encyclopedia to learn more about a subject or word that I have never encountered before. I have also participated in the MASTER Program for the past three summers (this one being my fourth), so believe Ms. Colón when she exclaims that I’ve been here forever. My advice to all of you guys and gals out there is to take advantage of all the opportunities thrown your way. Whether they be in the form of summer programs or college classes, take them and stash all the information that you can. Most importantly, have fun while learning, because those are the memories that you will have forever. I will be attending Lehman College in the fall under the "guiding hand" of the Lehman Scholars Program. I am currently undecided as to what major I will pursue but I will thoroughly enjoy dabbling in every subject until I find my perfect niche in the world. Be healthy and wise until next time.

"The summer was good. I liked robotics because I got to solve problems." Juan Batista

"I learned more about myself. I did well in the Academic Olympics. I don’t usually trust myself. But, I realized that I can do what I dream if I put my mind to it." Lahiz Tavarez

"Legos are evil. There are no words for it." Julian Pereyra

"It was a great experience and others should try it because it will help them become better thinkers." Sharon Battle

"You should remember me because I’ll be really famous some day." Siddique Mohamed

"I liked robotics because I never got bored. I like all the classes because we did something different every day in class." Yorleiny Terrero

"I liked Forensic science because it is what I want to do later in life. It was useful." Yuri Agostini
