SUMMER FUN-WE’RE BACK!!!

It is Thursday, July 6th, the first day of the MASTER Program-2006. Students are looking around and asking, "Where is Mr. Chessler?" Mr. Chessler, who is known for his complicated and intricate New York Times questions, is unable to be with us this year because of personal issues. We miss him.

This summer Ms. Roman and Ms. Colón are back. Ms. Roman continues to teach Biological Investigations. This year the class is dissecting a fetal pig, analyzing the contents of an owl pellet, and doing research on Vitamin C and nutrition.

Ms. Colón is introducing a new course, Consumer Chemistry. Students will analyze commonly used products such as toothpaste and aspirin. Students will also make ice cream, learn how to tie-dye, and make slime. Hmmm!

We welcome Mr. DiGaetano and Mr. Stern to our program. Mr. DiGaetano is teaching Moviemaking. The name speaks for itself.

Mr. Stern’s course, "Fly and Drive," has students engaged in building bridges, rockets, and roadsters.

This summer will be filled with new activities and even a new T-shirt design.

Many thanks to Dr. Anne Rothstein, the program director, who is responsible for securing the funding for this program. Her associates Roz Krakowsky, Grace Colon, Leane Brugueras, and Laura Tringali provide invaluable assistance.

The Academic Olympics will kick off on Tuesday, July 11th, in Room B-34. MASTERITES have spent this week preparing for their first competition in the following ways:

  1. Selecting a team name;
  2. Selecting teams of three to compete;
  3. Perusing the New York Times for current events information;
  4. Reviewing all course work.

It is important that all MASTERITES come in the correct attire, "light blue T-Shirts," ready to do academic combat. It is hoped that each group takes time each day to prepare for this exciting competition.

Ms. McCabe wishes everybody Good Luck! There are NO LOSERS IN MASTER!

Do You Know?

Luis Rohena and Ms. McCabe

1. Luis Rohena, a former Macy and MASTERITE and now a 3rd year student at the Harvard School of Medicine, paid us a visit this week.

2. Many Macy upper- class students are taking courses at Lehman College this summer. Courses offered are Digital Art, Writing for Mass Media, Visual Elements of Theatre Seminar, Art of Theatre, Biology, Analysis, and Action for Community Health.

Masterites are eligible for these summer courses the summer after they become juniors and seniors.

1. Which group leader consumed too much ice cream - leaving none for the Master of the Universe?

2. Which two girls in Group D have little sense of time and direction.

3. Which student in Group A was proud that his shirt and the glue bottle matched?

This movie must be funny.

Pretty enough to be in pictures!

Eva Tringali

Eva Tringali is a freshman at SUNY New Paltz. She plans on majoring in business management, and eventually would like to work in the hospitality field. During the summer, she works with the STEP/MASTER program and as a lifeguard. Since life-guarding involves no work what so ever, she gets through many books and movies during the summer. Her favorite books are "The Kite Runner," "The Queen of Everything," and "Counterfeit Kid," and her favorite movies are "Shawshank Redemption," "Se7in," "Crash," and "Blow." Her favorite thing to do is jet ski, sleep, go on the boat, and inevitably, sleep ON the boat.

Ms. Colón exhibits a rare smile.
