V. Purposes and Overview: (Course Description):

The purpose of the 8 day Movie Making course is to expose students to the technical process that goes into writing, producing, directing and editing a movie.

The course will begin with a brief history of some award winning movies, such as Citizen Kane to understand the different discourse a scene can convey through effective camera work.  Students will then learn to effectively plan out the different phases of a movie in groups.  They will then learn to develop a plan of action through coming up with an idea, developing a script and managing their time in the process of producing a 10 minute movie.  A major component of this course will be to hone students’ skills in learning how to manage and organize time.

At the conclusion of the course students will create a 10 minute movie based on an original idea that they have created.  Our program staff will then grade the movies based on a rubric which assess: Adherence to PG Standards, Editing, Screenplay and the effective work of the group in the process of filming.  It is hoped that the experience teaches the students to plan effectively and work within deadlines.  These skills are vital as students take the next academic step and ultimately into careers.
