V. Purposes (Course Objectives):

* To learn basic principles of Air Density and Motion

Students will be able to:

• Describe the relationship that exists between density and air temperature

• Apply the above mentioned relationship to the floating and sinking of objects.

• Define force and describe its relationship to motion

• Define friction and its three types

• Describe Newton’s three laws of motion

• Apply Newton’s laws to everyday examples of motion

VI. Overview: (Course Description):

• Students work in groups in pairs with the materials provided along with a worksheet (attached) to guide them through the construction of their own fan propelled car.  For this activity, students can only use the materials provided by the instructor.  At the same time the teacher will provide the students with hints as to the use of each material.
• Students work in groups of three or four in the construction of a hot air balloon where the functional material is colorful pieces of tissue paper.   Each group is provided with a worksheet (attached) which contains a standard diagram of the balloon to be constructed.  Although the structure of all balloons will be uniform, each group is allowed to free their imagination and be as creative as possible in decorating their work of art!
