Bronx Institute Awarded $100,000 Grant from Edwin Gould Foundation
The Bronx Institute at Lehman College has been awarded a two-year, $100,000 grant from the Edwin Gould Foundation for continued support of its Engaging Latino Communities for Education (ENLACE) program. Hundreds of Latino students in more than a dozen Bronx schools will continue to reap the benefits of the rigorous two-year college readiness program.
“With these funds, ENLACE will be better able to serve the borough’s many high-potential Latinos,” said Professor Herminio Martinez, executive director of the Bronx Institute and a faculty member in Lehman’s Middle and High School Education Department. “We are grateful for the continuing support of the Edwin Gould Foundation for this important program.”
The program, which meets year-round at the College and is developed and implemented by Lehman and Bronx Institute faculty, currently serves a seventh, eighth, tenth, eleventh, and college cohort.
Students in the program receive advanced instruction in math and science, and have access to paid internships and summer study opportunities at renowned research institutions and universities.
Graduating seniors are encouraged to apply to the most competitive undergraduate programs at public and private universities. The average SAT score for the last graduating cohort was 1610.
Admission to the program is competitive, and students are required to complete an application, participate in a diagnostic test, and submit a transcript and an essay.
