Overview

From the Department Chair, Dr. Milagros Ricourt

The Department of Latin American and Puerto Rican Studies offers an inter-disciplinary approach to the study of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the many emigrant communities from the region. An exciting variety of courses are offered. Faculty members in the Department are trained in different disciplines, but are united in their commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship. Faculty members aspire to not only share substantive knowledge but to also strengthen students' analytical and expository skills.

The Department offers two majors (and minors): Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Puerto Rican Studies. Many of the Department's courses meet distribution requirements. Both of the Department's majors are approved for students training to be teachers in New York State.
