REGISTERING FOR UNDERGRADUATE-LEVEL CLASSES

We encourage graduate students to make steady progress toward their master’s degrees. Frequently, however, graduate students need to complete undergraduate-level courses that are not counted toward the credits needed to complete their degrees. This situation occurs for two common reasons:

  • Students need to fulfill prerequisites for their master’s program
  • Students need to make up academic deficiencies to achieve certification by the New York State Education Department.

Graduate students registering for undergraduate-level classes must register in person

    • First see the Graduate Studies Adviser (Shuster Hall 275) for a permission slip (often called an A-1). Selected courses require that you also see the academic department offering the course.
    • Take the permission slip to the Office of the Registrar (Shuster Hall 175 or 182) to register.
    • Go to the Bursar’s Office to clear your bill

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS REGISTERING FOR GRADUATE-LEVEL CLASSES

Undergraduate students registering for graduate-level classes must register in person.

Occasionally, qualified undergraduate students are permitted to register for graduate-level classes. In order to register for a graduate course, students in bachelor’s degree programs must have the permission of the department offering the course.

Graduate courses taken for undergraduate credit
Undergraduate students desiring to register in graduate courses for undergraduate credit must see the Department of Academic Standards and Evaluation/Undergraduate Studies (Shuster Hall 280). Graduate courses taken for undergraduate credit will be credited toward the bachelor’s degree and the grade will be counted in the grade point average. Graduate courses taken for undergraduate credit cannot be transferred into a future master’s degree program.
