HEALTH N-12 TEACHER


The Health N-12 Teacher program is designed to prepare students as health educators in public and private schools. Students who complete the Health N-12 Teacher Degree Program and who pass the National Teaching Examination will be provisionally certified as licensed teachers by the New York State Education Department.

72-to-73-Credit Major in Health N-12 Teacher, B.S.

The required courses and credits are distributed as follows:

Credits  Courses 
12  In department courses: HSD 240 (3), 266 (3) 269 (3), and 306 (3) 
31-32  In health education and promotion: HEA 249 (3), 267 (3), 300 (3), 303 (2), 305 (3), 307 (3), 309 (3), and 400 (3) plus 8-9 credits in elective courses chosen in consultation with an adviser 
12  In biological sciences: BIO 181* (4), 182 (4), and 230 (4) 
17  In education: ESC 301 (4), 437 (3), 472 (3), and 476 (1), plus 6 credits in electives chosen in consultation with an adviser 

* Students in the Health N-12 Teacher program should take BIO 181 as their distribution course in naturalÐÐscience. The credits are included as part of the specific degree requirements. PSY 166 should be taken to fulfill the distribution requirements in social science.

Honors in Health N-12 Teacher
Departmental honors in Health N-12 Teacher may be awarded to a student who has met the generalÐÐrequirements for departmental honors, including maintaining a 3.5 index in a minimum of 24 HEA credits, which must include HEA 485.
