Dmitry A. Garanin - Personal

  • Born in Moscow on 4 December 1954
  • Moved to Germany with the family in 1992; citizen of Germany
  • Married with Elena Kuschnerova, concert pianist, since 1986
  • Daughter Marina Garanin, born in 1987. Since 2006 a student of the Heidelberg University in languages and literature
  • The family continues to live in Germany and I spend my vacations in Europe with them
  • I am webmaster and editor of the web sites of Elena Kuschnerova and composer Alexander Lokshin
My latest project is Elena Kuschnerova Classic Radio launched in March 2007
  • My favorite music is classical, although I don't like most of available recordings. I support independent artists and I dislike "superstars" created by global management
  • I like to analyze political processes but I do not associate myself with any party
  • I respect religions, as long as they are peaceful. I don't like anything that divides people from people
  • I regret devaluing of intellectual values because of their easy accessibility in the electronic form
  • My favorites sports have been hiking, biking, and canoing. A couple of years ago I've got excited about crawl swimming and inline skating

Elena Kuschnerova performing Chopin's "Revolutionary" Etude Op.10 No12
live as an encore in her 1995 recital in Germany. You can watch other videos in this window, too

Elena Kuschnerova performing "Medium" from Seven Romantic Ballads by Mikhail Kollontay
in November 2007 at Lehman College. This piano cycle was composed in 2002 and is dedicated to her.
Elena performed "Medium" on many continents and always it was an absolute hit of the recital

Look at this original way of inline skating that is called double push.
I am using it, too, although not yet so well as Pascal Briand

Here is a video of myself skating in the Central Park on 16 September 2007
I do not put it on youtube yet: The camera was shaky and out of focus, I was a bit tired after making the full circle in 30 minutes, and I have to improve my technique.
A more recent skating video from Spain, July 2008
The technique is better but still has to be improved. I have to lower my CM.
Swimming video from Bad-Nauheim and Perpignan, both 2008
