Using Eudora 6 for Windows

The following instructions were developed on Eudora 6 running on Windows XP. They do not necessarily apply to other versions of Eudora and to other operating systems.. Versions of Eudora before version 4 do not support IMAP and cannot be used with Mirapoint.

If a Eudora setup already exists

Do not change an existing Eudora setup from POP to IMAP

Eudora refers to an email account as a personality.

To setup Eudora to work with Mirapoint email, add a personality. Your first or primary account is referred as the dominant personality. This might be your account on CUNYVM or one of the previous Lehman email systems. You may also have one or more secondary accounts.

1. Select Tools from the menu bar, then Personalities. The Personalities frame will open on the left side of the Eudora window listing your primary email account and other personalities you may have set up.
2. Right click in the blank area of the Personalities frame to display the context menu and select New. The Eudora Account creation wizard will start.
3. Click the radio button next to Create a brand new email account
4. Click Next
5. Enter the label you want to use for the new account in the Personality Name textbox, e.g.: Mirapoint
6. Click Next
7. Enter Your Name as you want it to appear in the message header
8. Click Next
9. Enter your Mirapoint email address in the Email Address textbox:
   firstname.lastname@lehman.cuny.edu
10. Click Next
11. Enter your login name: firstname.lastname
12. Click Next
13. Enter the name of the incoming (IMAP) server in the Incoming Server text box: mail.lehman.edu
14. Select IMAP as the type of server on the Incoming Server page.
15. Click Next
16. Leave IMAP Location Prefix textbox blank
17. Click Next
18. Enter the name of the outgoing (SMTP) server in the Outgoing Server textbox: mail.lehman.edu
19. The check box next to Allow authentication should be checked
20. Click Next
21. Click Finish

The label of your new Mirapoint account should appear in the Personality window. Eudora will contact the Mirapoint server and prompt you for your password.

To review or change the settings of your account, right click on the personality name and select Properties.

To see the mailboxes associated with your accounts, click on the mailbox tab at the bottom of the Personalities window. This tab is usually the first tab on the left. To return to the Personalities view, click on the Personalities tab. This tab is usually the tab on the right.

All POP accounts by default use the same folder of mailboxes under Dominant. IMAP accounts have their own folders.

If you are setting up Eudora for the first time

The first time you run Eudora, the New Account Wizard will start automatically.

1. Click Next
2. Click the radio button next to Create a brand new email account
3. Click Next
4. Enter Your Name as you want it to appear in the message header
5. Click Next
6. Enter your Mirapoint email address in the Email Address textbox: firstname.lastname@lehman.cuny.edu
7. Click Next
8. Enter your login name: firstname.lastname
9. Click Next
10. Enter the name of the incoming (IMAP) server in the Incoming Server text box: mail.lehman.edu
11. Select IMAP as the type of server on the Incoming Server page.
12. Click Next
13. Leave IMAP Location Prefix textbox blank
14. Click Next
15. Enter the name of the outgoing (SMTP) server in the Outgoing Server textbox: mail.lehman.edu
16. The checkbox next to Allow authentication should be checked
17. Click Next
18. Click Finish

Eudora will contact the Mirapoint server and prompt you for your password.
