Lehman's Department of Journalism, Communication and Theatre (JCT) will launch an ongoing series of panel discussions on April 25 featuring professional journalists and high-profile media professionals from the New York City area. "Making Local TV News Relevant: A Report from the Field," the first of this bi-monthly series, will be held at 11 a.m. in the Lovinger Theatre. The series is free and open to the campus community, as well as the public.

Panelists participating in the first discussion include Lisa Evers of FOX 5 News, Marcus Solis of ABC Eyewitness News, Arthur Chi'en of the WB11 News at 10 and Dean Meminger of NY1 News. The journalists will discuss their efforts to make news relevant to younger viewers in an age when video games, podcasting and the Internet are all vying for their attention. JCT Professor Jim Carney will moderate the discussion.

"New York City is the media capital of the world," says Professor Carney. "There is an unusually rich journalism community right here in our own back yard. With this series, we're introducing our students to that community so they are exposed to the industry and to professionals in this market."

The discussion sessions will be videotaped for cablecast on Bronxnet's Channel 67. For more information, contact Professor Carney at extension 7733 or by email at james.carney@lehman.cuny.edu.
