Celebrated Trumpet Player Ray Vega to Perform with Lehman Jazz Ensemble April 11

Trumpet player Ray Vega will join the Lehman Jazz Ensemble on Tuesday, April 11, for a celebration of West Coast Latin Jazz, at 4:30 p.m. in the Music Building Cafeteria. This event is free and open to the campus community.

Vega is a Concord Jazz recording artist with two albums, Ray Vega and Boperation. Boperation is a Latin Jazz celebration of some of Vega's favorite Jazz trumpet players. Over the years, Vega has worked and recorded with legendary Afro-Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaria; Ray Barretto, with whom he recorded the Grammy-nominated song "Taboo;" and Tito Puente's Latin Jazz Ensemble. With Puente, Vega recorded six albums, including the Grammy Award-winning song "Mambo Birdland."

Co-directed by Victor Rendon and Armando Rodriguez of the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music, the Ensemble includes students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members. The program will feature the music of Cal Tjader, Vince Guaraldi, Horace Silver and others.
