Home Health Aide Training Offered—for Free

CUNY on the Concourse Logo
Free training for home health aides will be offered at CUNY on the Concourse beginning in January. The three-week comprehensive session will qualify workers to care for patients in the home and leads to certification as an aide, which the State Department of Labor describes as one of the fastest growing positions in the healthcare field.

The training is jointly sponsored by the Lehman Division of Continuing Education, People Care, Inc., and the CUNY on the Concourse Workforce1 Career Center. Conducting the sessions will be staff from People Care, Inc., a leading provider of home health services to patients in the New York City region, which will offer immediate employment to successful candidates. Through a joint program with 1199 SEIU Home Care Division, the company is able to offer workers union benefits, health insurance, tuition assistance and further job growth opportunities.

CUNY on the Concourse will hold an open house each Wednesday, at 1 p.m., where participants may learn about the program and register for training. To learn more, call (718) 960-6900.

Located at 2501 Grand Concourse, at the intersection of Fordham Road, CUNY on the Concourse is operated by the three CUNY colleges in the Bronx. One of two CUNY facilities in the city to be designated as a Workforce1 Career Center, it provides free job assistance and placement services, including personalized career counseling, assistance creating resumes and cover letters, advice on preparing for interviews, and resource rooms with high-speed Internet access, telephones and fax and copy machines.
