'Teaching Between the Lesson Plans' March 28

Dr. Peter Alsop, a nationally known singer, songwriter, and educational psychologist, will present "Teaching Between the Lesson Plans" on Wednesday, March 28, from 4:15-6 p.m. in Lehman's Lovinger Theatre. The program will discuss socio-emotional development and feature practical techniques to help clarify complicated social interactions that can come up in the classroom. The discussion will be of particular interest to students of sociology, social work, psychology, recreation education, speech-language-hearing sciences, and health education.

Dr. Alsop graduated from Trinity College in Connecticut and earned his Ph.D. in educational psychology from Columbia University's Teachers College and Columbia Pacific University. He directed the Harbor School's Residential Treatment Center for emotionally disturbed adolescents in Maine and was also an elementary school teacher in the South Bronx.

Dr. Alsop combines his experience as a teacher and a therapist with music. He has produced 19 audio recordings and seven videos and won numerous awards from Parents' Choice and the Association For Independent Music. His songs are used by parents, educators, and human service professionals to help families discuss sensitive issues.

His appearance at Lehman is sponsored by the College's Division of Education and the Office of the Provost.
