New Educational Leadership Programs

Lehman College and the Department of Specialized Services in Education are proud to announce two new graduate programs in Educational Leadership:
Master of Science in Education Program in Educational Leadership (33 Credits)
- Leads to New York State certification as School Building Leader
- Schedule designed for active teachers. Two classes per semester, meet on the same day in adjacent time slots
Requirements for Admission
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
- Minimum 3.0 (B) grade point average from a completed undergraduate degree program.
- New York State permanent or professional certification in classroom teaching, school counseling, school psychology, or school social work or the equivalent.
- Minimum three years successful experience in teaching P-12 and/or school counseling, school psychology, or school social work.
- Three letters of recommendation:
- at least one from a current or former school site supervisor who can best evaluate the candidate's potential as a P-12 principal;
- at least one from a faculty member from prior studies who can best evaluate the candidate's potential for success as a graduate student;
- Essay (1000 words) discussing the following areas:
- reasons for wanting to pursue a degree and certification as a school building leader;
- candidate's philosophy on excellence in urban educational leadership, including the specific characteristics that contribute to effective leadership;
- current assessment of the state of educational leadership in urban schools, including what appears to be the greatest challenges and suggestions for overcoming these challenges
- Current resume
- Applicants who meet the preliminary criteria will be invited to a group interview.
Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership (30 Credits)
- Leads to New York State certification as School District Leader.
- Schedule designed for active teachers. Two classes per semester, meet on the same day in adjacent time slots.
Requirements for Admission
- Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum 3.0 (B) grade point average from a completed graduate degree program.
- New York State permanent or professional certification in classroom teaching, school counseling, school psychology, or school social work or the equivalent.
- Minimum three years successful experience in teaching PŠ12 and/or school counseling, school psychology, or school social work.
- Three letters of recommendation:

- brief analysis of a current educational policy, discussing its pros/cons and its impact on urban districts;
- Current resume
- Applicants who meet the preliminary criteria will be invited to a group interview.
