Percussion Ensemble to Make its Premiere April 20

The Lehman College Percussion Ensemble will give its first performance on Friday, April 20, at 12:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Music Building. Joining in the program will be the Brooklyn College Percussion Ensemble and the Royal Irish Academy of Music Percussion Ensemble.

Directing the new ensemble is Morris Lang, percussionist emeritus of the New York Philharmonic and a member of the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he has performed with the New York City Ballet, the American Opera Society, the Radio City Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, along with various chamber music organizations.

Appointed associate principal timpanist and percussionist with the New York Philharmonic in 1955, he has performed on hundreds of recordings and television programs, including the famous Leonard Bernstein's "Young People's Concerts" and "Live from Lincoln Center." This year, he joined the Lehman Music Department and initiated the Percussion Ensemble Program, including an exchange program with the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

The Brooklyn College Percussion Ensemble is directed by Frank Cassara, a member of the Harry Partch Ensemble, the Philip Glass Ensemble, and Steve Reich and Musicians. Directing the Royal Irish Academy of Music Percussion Ensemble is Richard O'Donnell, principal percussionist of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
