Acclaimed Sociologist George Ritzer to Give Talk April 19

Professor George Ritzer
Professor Ritzer, a native New Yorker, is a graduate of Bronx High School of Science, City College (B.A.), the University of Michigan (M.B.A.) and Cornell University (Ph.D.). He has written over 30 books and numerous articles and is perhaps best known for several editions of The McDonaldization of Society, which has been translated into more than a dozen languages. Some of his other well-known titles include: Expressing America: A Critique of the Global Credit Card Society (1995), Enchanting a Disenchanted World: Revolutionizing the Means of Consumption (1999, 2005), and The Globalization of Nothing (2007). He also edited the Encyclopedia of Social Theory (2005), is the founding editor of the Journal of Consumer Culture, and recently completed editing both the 11-volume Encyclopedia of Sociology (2007) and the Blackwell Companion to Globalization (2007). He is currently writing a new book, The Outsourcing of Everything.
Professor Ritzer received the 2000 Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award from the American Sociological Association. In 2004, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from La Trobe University in Australia, and in 2006 he became an Honorary Patron of the University Philosophical Society of Trinity College, Dublin.
