Dwight Stephenson's hard work and focus have earned him one of CUNY's highest student honors—the Belle Zeller Scholarship.

Named after the founding president emerita of the Professional Staff Congress, the scholarship gives recipients full tuition assistance for up to three semesters. Awards are based on academic standing and a student's commitment to social causes.

Last year, Stephenson, a Social Work major, co-presented a paper at the fall meeting of the New York State chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Presenting with him was Prof. Carl Mazza, his mentor and president of the chapter.

"Dwight is an exceptional student," says Prof. Mazza. "He is very open to exploring new ideas and learning from others. He understands the importance of a liberal arts education and sees how everything in life is interconnected."

Stephenson graduated with honors from Borough of Manhattan Community College in 2006 and plans to pursue his master's degree in social work after graduation.
