Kenneth Schlesinger, a librarian, archivist, scholar, and educator, has been named Professor and Chief Librarian at Lehman. He began his tenure August 1.

Prof. Schlesinger comes to Lehman with significant experience in the CUNY system, including his most recent service as Acting Chief Librarian at York College. From 2000-2006, he was Director of Media Services at LaGuardia Community College, where he also achieved the rank of full professor. He worked previously at Thirteen/WNET, where he established the station’s first videotape archive, and was also an archivist in the research collections of Time, Inc., the Metropolitan Opera, the Paley Center for Media (formally the Museum of Television and Radio), and the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music.

"The Library's holdings are core assets whose continued preservation and growth are vital to the work of our students and faculty," said Dr. Mary A. Papazian, Lehman’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. "Prof. Schlesinger's experience and scholarship will position the Library to continue to fulfill its important mission."

Prof. Schlesinger has spoken and published extensively on library architecture, open access, institutional repositories, intellectual property, performing arts archives, and digital preservation. He has received numerous academic and professional honors, including a Fulbright Senior Specialist grant and Summer Fellowship from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. He is vice president of the Theater Library Association and a founder and board president of Independent Media Arts Preservation.

Prof. Schlesinger received a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley, an M.F.A. from Yale University, and an M.L.S. from Pratt Institute. He succeeds Prof. Rona Ostrow, who retired as Chief Librarian in 2006. Since then, Prof. Sandrea DeMinco had served as Acting Chief Librarian.
