Biographer of Legendary Record Producer John Hammond to Give Lecture October 4

The Producer: John Hammond and the Soul of American Music
Author and journalist Dunstan Prial will visit Lehman on Thursday, October 4, to discuss his highly praised biography of legendary record producer John Hammond. The free talk, presented as part of The City and the Humanities program, will take place in Room B-04 of Carman Hall.

The Producer: John Hammond and the Soul of American Music explores the many sides of Hammond's professional life. A music critic as well as a talent scout, Hammond discovered artists like Billie Holliday, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Committed to pursuing social justice, he pushed for the recognition of African American musicians and advocated for the racial integration of bands he admired, such as Benny Goodman's, long before the civil rights movement.
