Editor of Bronx Noir to Visit Lehman Oct. 18

Bronx Noir
The editor of Bronx Noir, a newly published anthology of 19 Bronx-based mystery stories, will visit Lehman on Thursday, October 18, to give a reading from the book and to discuss writing, the Bronx, and other areas of interest for local "noir" fans. The free event, sponsored by The City and the Humanities program at Lehman, will take place at 12:30 p.m. in Room B-04 of Carman Hall.

Joining the editor, S.J. Rozan, will be novelist and Lehman English Professor Terrence Cheng, whose short story in the anthology, "Gold Mountain," involves a man delivering Chinese food. Other stories take place in various Bronx communities, including Riverdale, Williamsbridge, Hunts Point, Baychester, Arthur Avenue, the area around Yankee Stadium, and in the Bronx Zoo—where a hunter targets his human prey as part of a national contest.

Rozan, a lifelong New Yorker who was born and raised in the Bronx, is the author of Absent Friends and In This Rain (forthcoming), as well as eight novels in the Lydia Chin/Bill Smith series. Her book Winter and Night won the Edgar, Nero, and Macavity Awards for Best Novel and was nominated for the Shamus, Anthony, and Barry Awards. Two of her previous books won the Shamus for Best Novel, and another won the Anthony for Best Novel. Her short story "Double-crossing Delancey" won the Edgar Award for Best Short Story.

Prof. Cheng is the author of two highly praised novels, Sons of Heaven (2002) and Deep in the Mountains: An Encounter with Zhu Qizhan (2007). He received an M.F.A. from the University of Miami, where he was a James Michener Fellow, and a 2005 Literature Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
