Four Lehman Students Win NHBG Scholarships

Jenniffer Castillo
Senior Jenniffer Castillo is among four Lehman students who have won this year's National Hispanic Business Group (NHBG) scholarship. The students were formally honored at NHBG's black-tie gala in Manhattan's Cipriani's restaurant.
"I'm very grateful for the scholarship," said Castillo, who was raised in the Bronx and is the first in her family to earn a college degree. "The money will help me pay for books and tuition."
A business administration major with a specialization in finance, Castillo interned last fall in the Bronx Small Business Development Center, located on the Lehman campus, where she helped clients develop business plans, prepare loan packages, file articles of incorporation, and apply for tax identification. The center was so pleased with her work that she was asked to continue on the staff during the school year. After graduation, she hopes to remain at the center as a business adviser.
Castillo chose Lehman because she wanted to preserve her ties to the Latino community. Her interest in finance developed during her freshman year, after she completed an economics course.
NHBG scholarships were also awarded to Lehman juniors Elizabeth Devora and Katy Matos and to sophomore Steven Mayol.
