C.A.S.A. Club Board Vice President Ravi Rampersaud, students Pilar Guichardo and Lissec Medrano, and Lehman alumnus Carlos Sierra were among those invited to attend the conference. Attendees participated in workshops ranging from immigration issues to how to start not-for-profit organizations. They also heard from Dominican leaders such as New York State's first Dominican Assemblyman, Adriano Espaillat, and Dr. Hugo M. Morales, the first Dominican member of CUNY's Board of Trustees.

"Getting to meet people like Assemblyman Espaillat and hearing about some of the struggles that he's gone through to be in his position was enlightening, and it opened my eyes to the possibilities for me and others in my community," said Rampersaud.

This year's conference also saw the creation of the D.A.N.R. Corporate Advisory Council; its mission will be to develop programs and initiatives responsive to the needs of the growing Dominican American community. Established in 1997, D.A.N.R. is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that advocates for the empowerment of Dominicans in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. territories.
