In her student address at the College's Dean's List ceremony earlier this month, senior Magdalini Kasimis urged her fellow honorees to be proud of their accomplishments, continue to seek challenges in their chosen field, and never take for granted the opportunities they've been offered.

Kasimis, whose parents emigrated from Greece, knows just how important it is to take advantage of every educational opportunity—opportunities denied to her own parents in their native country. The speech-language pathology major has earned a 3.9 G.P.A. and is also a President's Scholar. Currently working at an early intervention agency that offers speech-language services, Kasimis says she particularly enjoys working with children and helping them develop the communication skills they need to successfully integrate into society.

After graduation, Kasimis plans to pursue a master's degree and eventually a Ph.D. in the field. She is specifically interested in conducting research on topics such as autism and the biases of standardized tests toward minority children.

Kasimis was among the 408 Lehman students who were honored at the ceremony for their high academic achievement. Also speaking were President Ricardo R. Fernández, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Standards Dr. Mary Papazian, and Academic Standards and Evaluation Director Liliana Calvet, who coordinated the event.
