Alumnus Publishes Children's Book

Writing children's books wasn't exactly in the plans for Lehman alumnus Saul Weber '74. For the past 30 years, he has worked as a systems analyst with the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation. Today, though, he is the published author of A Lesson My Cat Taught Me, a short story inspired by his own cats.

As Weber likes to put it, he started writing as a lark. First he joined the Romance Writers of America, and then he started dabbling with a manuscript about the paranormal. It was his wife who urged him to shelve that book and write about something else. While watching his two cats at play, Weber was moved to write the story.

A Lesson My Cat Taught Me is a story of unconditional love and acceptance. When Jennifer and her mother rescue an abandoned cat with a missing eye, they find that the cat, whom they name Uno, is capable of outperforming their existing cat. Jennifer learns that physical disabilities are not as disabling as she once thought.

Weber, who majored in sociology at Lehman, has completed two more manuscripts and is working on a third. He has plans for retirement and may consider a second career in the writing field.

A Lesson My Cat Taught Me, Lightsword Publishing, 2007, is available online at Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and at local bookstores.
