In celebration of Black History Month, the College will host a series of events in the month of February. From the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Lecture to poetry readings, the events will cover a range of interests and topics related to Africa and the African Diaspora.

Members of the elite Tuskegee Airmen military unit will visit the campus on Wednesday, February 13, to deliver a presentation on their experience during World War II. The presentation will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Music Building's East Dining Room.

On Thursday, February 21, a variety show, entitled "Freedom Dreams: African American Artistic Insights, Past and Present," will feature dance, poetry, and the spoken word. The program will include a performance by poet Thomas Sayers Ellis, recipient of the Whiting Writers' Award in 2005 for poetry. This event will be held from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre.

Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson will deliver the keynote address at the College's Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., lecture on Tuesday, February 26, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre. A native New Yorker, Johnson has served the Bronx for more than twenty years and is committed to community improvement through drug rehabilitation, community outreach, and crime prevention.

The series will continue on Wednesday, February 27, with the Annual Student/Faculty Poetry Read-in, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Leonard Lief Library's second floor Atrium. The readings will focus on black women in prose, poetry, and song.

A one-day bus tour of Philadelphia's historic Underground Railroad sites will conclude the series. The tour, which is open to Lehman students only, will take place on Friday, February 29. Admission is $25. To register for this event, call the Office of Campus Life at 718-960-8535.

These events are co-sponsored by the Department of African and African-American Studies, the Women's Studies Program, and the Office of Campus Life. For more information, call the African and African American Studies Department at 718-960-8283.
