Blood Drives Recognized with Borough President's Award

Director of Wellness and Health Education Kate Greenberg accepts the 2007 College award from Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion.
High schools, colleges, and government agencies that had planned and executed drives in the Bronx and the Hudson Valley were honored at the recognition ceremony, sponsored by Hudson Valley Blood Services of the New York Blood Center and held recently at the Bronx Zoo.
"Lehman is a wonderful place to hold a blood drive because our campus is so diverse," said Director of Wellness and Health Education Kate Greenberg. "Of the five percent of people nationwide who donate blood, only ten percent are African American or Latino, and these groups are more likely to carry blood types O or B, the types that are most in demand during this critical New York City blood shortage. I am especially proud of this award because Lehman's blood donors deserve to be recognized for their generosity."
The Student Health Center will sponsor its next blood drive on February 6 and 7, from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., in the East Dining Room of the Music Building. Donors will receive two admission tickets to the Bronx Zoo and will be entered in a raffle to win a $2,000 trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. Several second-prize winners will receive autographed footballs from the New York Giants.
