Chancellor Matthew Goldstein
Chancellor Matthew Goldstein meeting with Lehman faculty and staff.

Chancellor Matthew Goldstein recently visited the Lehman campus to talk with faculty and staff about his vision for the City University of New York. The visit forms part of the Chancellor's plan to initiate and maintain an open dialogue with faculty and administration from each campus on the changes and developments taking place at the University.

Accompanying the Chancellor were Jay Hershenson, senior vice chancellor and secretary of the Board of Trustees, Barbara Cura, executive assistant to the Chancellor, and Theresa Desmond, senior writer for the Office of the Chancellor.

Among the highlights of the conversation were:

Attaining Sustainable and Predictable Investment in CUNY

  • Fundraising will continue to be a major source of revenue for the University, with each college expected to increase its fundraising activity.
  • The public is becoming increasingly aware of academic programs, faculty research, and student achievement within CUNY.

Emphasis on Science Education

  • With CUNY's 'Decade of Science' in full swing, math and science programs throughout the University will continue to see increased support for labs, equipment, and academic research.
  • Lehman's New Science Building: With Phase I already underway, the University has pledged a commitment to Phase II of construction.

Raising Academic Standards

  • Senior CUNY colleges will focus on recruiting college-ready students, with an increase in math and reading standards.
  • Further improvements toward timely graduation.
