Indoor Track and Field Teams Sweep CUNYAC Championships

Both of Lehman's Indoor Track and Field teams captured CUNYAC titles March 2. For the men, it was their first championship in program history; for the women, their second in three years.
The Lehman men's and women's indoor track and field teams made it a clean sweep March 2, as both squads turned in spirited efforts to capture the 2008 CUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
For the women, this was their second championship in the last three seasons, and sixth in school history. The men captured the conference crown for the first time in the program's existence.
"Seeing our hard work pay off on both sides is truly gratifying," said Lehman coach Lesleigh Hogg. "Both units put a lot of time and energy into attempting to win these championships, and for those efforts, they were rewarded tonight. I'm very proud of all of them."
On the women's side, the Lightning captured its sixth conference crown in the past nine seasons behind the leadership of freshman Lauren Lourick, who earned the meet's Most Valuable Performer award. Lourick won all three jumping events , including the long jump (5.24m), triple jump (11.00m), and high jump (1.42m). She also placed sixth in the 55-meter dash (7.85).
As for scoring, Lehman (145) outlasted CCNY (74), Medgar Evers (64), and Hunter (26). York also competed, but did not score.
The Lehman men's team was led by Pete Charles, who won the triple jump (13.93m) and long jump (6.76m) and also captured second place in the 55-meter dash finals (6.69). Lehman scored 141 points to capture the event.
A close battle for second place was decided by two points, as Medgar Evers (94) outlasted Hunter (92) for runner-up honors. CCNY (54) and York (40) rounded out the team scoring.
The meet was held at the New Balance Track and Field Center.
