UN Report on the Dominican Republic to be Discussed March 19

Professor Miguel Ceara-Hatton, a well-known Dominican economist and director of the Human Development Program for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), will visit Lehman on March 19 to discuss a report by the UNDP on the social, economic, and cultural conditions in the Dominican Republic. The presentation, which is open to the public, will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Lehman College Art Gallery.

According to the report, the Dominican Republic has achieved one of the highest levels of economic growth in the region, but this growth has not affected the quality of life of its people. In addition to an analysis of educational, economic, health, and political conditions at the regional, provincial, and municipal levels, it proposes policies to improve these conditions. At the same time, the report provides data suitable for academic studies in the humanities and the social sciences.
