Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes will take the stage at Lehman on March 15, as the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music continues to host this season's "Live in High Definition" series from the Metropolitan Opera.
The broadcast, which will be sent live from the Met via satellite to millions of viewers around the world, will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre. The event is free and open to the public; however, tickets are required and can be reserved by calling the Lehman Stages Box Office at 718-960-8025.
Starring tenor Anthony Dean Griffey and Patricia Racette, the opera is directed by John Doyle, a Tony Award winner for his interpretation of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. The story explores guilt and judgment and is set in an English fishing village.
Future performances include Puccini's La Bohème on April 5 at 1:30 p.m. and Donizetti's La Fille du Regiment on April 26 at 1:30 p.m.
The Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music—one of five New York City public schools selected to host the current series—combines a rigorous academic program with high-quality music instruction, which the students receive with assistance from the Lehman Music Department.
