College's Community Band to Give Free Concert March 30

The Lehman College Community Band will give its first performance of the new year with "Equinox," a free concert featuring both classic and modern works for wind band, on Sunday, March 30, at 2 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre.

Led by Professor Alan Hollander (Music Department), the band will perform works by Bilik, Curnow, Duble, Nestico, Tchaikovsky, and others. Armando Rodriguez will be featured on a flugel horn solo by Milt Kabak, entitled Adagio for Band, based on a theme from Joaquín Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" for classical guitar. Also featured will be trumpeter Ron LoPinto on A Tribute to Harry James, arranged by Nestico.

A professional musician and conductor, Professor Hollander has served as principal oboist and has performed as a soloist with numerous ensembles throughout the New York metropolitan area. He has conducted the American Wind Ensemble, the Larchmont Symphony, the Westchester Pops, and other ensembles.

In addition, he is active as a clinician and conductor in public school music programs throughout New York State, leading All County and All State Festival Ensembles. For twenty-six years, he has served as director of music and instrumental ensembles in the Edgemont Public Schools. He is also the musical director of the Westchester Band.
