Former Softball All-Star Tara Dempsey, 1982 - 2008

Lehman College mourns the death of former Lightning softball all-star Tara Dempsey, 26. A respected New York City Police Officer of the 33rd Precinct in Manhattan, she is survived by her mother and three siblings.

A four-time CUNYAC all-star, Dempsey was a starting catcher for the Lightning for four seasons from 2000-2003. During her freshman campaign in 2000, she was named the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year. She led her team in virtually every offensive category, including home runs, triples, and slugging pct.

In 2001, Dempsey's stellar play helped propel the Lightning to the CUNY championship game. That season, she also led the nation in doubles.
