Theatre Program to Stage Anna in the Tropics April 30-May5
The Cuban-born Cruz will visit the campus as part of the College's City and Humanities program, on Thursday, May 1, to discuss his American theater experience. The talk, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre.
Anna in the Tropics is set in a Cuban-American cigar factory in 1929 Florida and chronicles how the workers' lives change when a new lector is hired to entertain and educate them by reading aloud as they hand roll cigars.
Lehman College Prof. Susan Watson-Turner is the production's director and the cast includes students and professionals from the Bronx.
Show times are Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. There will also be 11 a.m. performances on Friday and Monday. Admission is $15. For reservations, call 718-960-8025.
