Professor William H. Hoffman
As Is was one of the first Broadway plays to deal with AIDS, focusing on the effect the then nascent disease had on a group of friends living in Greenwich Village. It won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play in 1985, as well as Tony and Pulitzer nominations.
"It's very gratifying that the play is still alive, but on one hand that we still have the problem of AIDS makes me sad," said Hoffman. "I was hoping the whole problem would have disappeared by now."
Professor Hoffman is an Associate Professor in the Journalism, Communication, & Theatre Dept. He has received countless awards for his stage and small-screen work. He splits his time between SoHo and Beacon, N.Y.
