Lehman Establishes Dual Degree Program with University in South Korea

Campus at Sunset

Lehman College announced a new student exchange program with Sungshin Women's University in Seoul, South Korea that allows students at both institutions to earn dual degrees. The program will begin in Fall 2008 and is open to other students in the City University of New York.

Sungshin was founded in 1936 with the mission of promoting Korean independence and culture. More than 50 courses a year are taught in English, including classes in biology, economics, business administration, mathematics and computer science, English literature, political science and psychology.

The University also offers Korean language courses to international students, which includes tutoring from a Korean student to help them develop their language proficiency while fostering the sharing of cultural and academic experience.

"We are very excited about this evolving partnership," said Dr. Mary Papazian, Lehman's provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. "The dual-degree program will provide an opportunity for Lehman and other CUNY students to study and learn in a rich cultural setting. It will also bring students from Sungshin to Lehman and thus enhance the international experience for all students on our campus."

The new program expands on an existing relationship between Lehman and Sungshin. Since 2007, Sungshin nursing students who have earned their R.N. and passed the New York State licensing exam have attended Lehman for their final year of study toward a Bachelor of Science degree.

Lehman and other CUNY students participating in the dual-degree program would pay their CUNY tuition and would still be eligible to receive State and Federal financial aid while studying at Sungshin. Housing on the Sungshin campus is $250 per month.
